Scare Away Cancer returns to the former Anthony's Steakhouse in 2022. The property's new owners are preserving the event space, which means the original home of the annual Halloween fundraiser will see little if any change in atmosphere.

"We are thrilled," said Tony Fucinaro.  "Scare Away Cancer is unique and when we learned Anthony's Steakhouse was closing, we were crushed.  The fact we are returning is the best news possible for our sponsors and attendees."
 
The most significant change people will notice is the date.  Scare Away Cancer 2022 is now on September 24, 2022.
 
"The new owners will be starting a significant remodel of the property in October so we moved the date up so we could keep the location," added Fucinaro.  "We hope the remodel will be done so we can have an October celebration in 2023."
 
There is a current waiting list for tables to attend Scare Away Cancer.  Openings for the event will be announced in the first week of August. 
 
Make plans to attend the annual Boo Brew Friendraiser on July 21, 2022, at the MCL Construction Headquarters.  The event is free (suggested donation at the door) and features beer and other refreshments. 
 
2022 marks the 12th annual Scare Away Cancer celebration.  Since 2010 we have raised over $1.2 million for cancer patients, families, and programs in the greater Omaha area.  In 2021, we distributed close to $100,000 to 53 individual recipients.  Scare Away Cancer also provided charitable care to patients and the Inner Beauty Salon at the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center.

Scare Away Cancer donates $15,000 to the Inner Beauty Salon at the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center.  The money will be used for charitable care for patients who may not otherwise be able to afford the service. 

​"Inner Beauty is a program that is near and dear to our hearts," said Paula Ebert of Scare Away Cancer.  "The service and the amount of compassionate care that Lori Fuchs and her team provide patients is inspiring."

This donation is the third year in a row Scare Away Cancer has assisted Inner Beauty with charitable care, now totaling $42,000 in products and services.  Inner Beauty is a salon for cancer patients and provides the following

• Skin Care
• Scalp Care
• Wigs
• Hats/Scarves
• Post-mastectomy bras
• Breast forms 

"This support ensures that every cancer survivor can feel as beautiful on the outside as they do on the inside.  Battling cancer can be frightening.  Scare Away Cancer is bringing smiles to patients who want to feel like themselves again," said RyAnne Elsesser of the Methodist Hospital Foundation. 

Last year 100% of Scare Away Cancer's donation was able to help 95 patients who utilized Inner Beauty's services.  "From skincare to wigs to post-mastectomy bras, Scare Away Cancer is making sure cancer patients have what they need to survive and thrive," added Elsesser.

The money donated to Inner Beauty helps fulfill Scare Away Cancer's mission of directly helping has many patients and families going through a cancer journey. 

"We are proud to say we donated $90,400 in 2018.  100% of that went directly to patients and or families that needed assistance with everyday life," said Ebert.  "This would not be possible without the generosity of our sponsors and individuals who unselfishly give and believe in our mission."

Rocket Car Wash is celebrating the grand opening of its newest location at 8007 South 84 Street in La Vista.  On Saturday, August 4, Rocket Car Wash will donate 50% of every Rocket Wash purchased to Scare Away Cancer. 

Rocket Car Wash opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 8:00 PM and will have lots of food and prizes for the celebration.  The first 100 customers through the wash will receive a FREE smoothie from The Smoothie Truck!!  Starting at 11:00 AM, Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q will be there passing out FREE sliders!!  The University of Nebraska at Omaha Cheer Team will be on hand as will Inphase Car Audio!!

Scare Away  Cancer's Boo Brew 5 at Infusion Brewing Company was a huge success.
 
An estimated 200 people attended the laid-back social gathering and helped Scare Away Cancer raise close to $5,000.  The event was held at Infusion Brewing Company for the second consecutive year and featured four premium craft beers by Infusion.  Attendees enjoyed the beer garden atmosphere, music, games, prizes, and food from the Chicago Dawg House.
 
Scare Away Cancer's summer fun is just getting started!  Our friends at A United Automatic Doors and Glass will hold its Annual Golf Classic in August and will benefit Scare Away Cancer.  A foursome at the event is just $500, and there are sponsorships available. ​Scare Away Cancer, a nonprofit organization run by volunteers from MCL Construction and others in the Omaha, Nebraska, community, donate $15,000 to the Inner Beauty Program at the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center.  100% of the money will be used for charitable care for patients who otherwise could not afford products and services.
 
"Our relationship with Scare Away Cancer goes back several years," said Lori Fuchs who directs the Inner Beauty program.  "Scare Away Cancer raised money to help with the construction of our new space and now the generosity extends directly to those who need it most."
 
A year ago, Scare Away Cancer made a similar donation to Inner Beauty and the impact was tremendous; 86 patients received assistance from the grant.  Services provided included skin care, scalp care, wigs, hats/scarves, prosthesis, mastectomy garments and more.  Patients do not have to be receiving treatment at Methodist Health System to utilize the Inner Beauty Salon services. 
"We want to help as many people fighting cancer as we can," said Tony Fucinaro of Scare Away Cancer and Senior Vice President at MCL Construction. "Lori and her team are real caregivers and have a significant impact on so many lives."
 
The Inner Beauty Salon is located inside the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center.  It is a warm, intimate, beautifully appointed setting where cancer survivors can experience personalized salon services and image consultations.
 
Scare Away Cancer is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization has raised close to $700,000 in seven years to provide direct financial assistance to patients and families fighting cancer.  Scare Away Cancer also supports local health care programs that provide treatment and support to patients.

Scare Away Cancer's Boo Brew 4 at Infusion Brewing Company was the biggest one yet! This is regarding attendance and money raised.  247 people attended the July 13th event which raised $5,200 for Scare Away Cancer.  100% of the money raised goes directly to cancer patients, families, and programs.

"I am amazed at how this event has grown," said Paula Ebert from Scare Away Cancer.  "People believe in our mission and want to help any way they can."

This year's event was the first at Infusion Brewing and Tap Room.  Four locally brewed craft beers by Infusion Brewing provided everyone with plenty of hops.

"Infusion Brewing hit it out of the park," added Scare Away Cancer's Tony Fucinaro.  "The outside beer garden tent was a huge success and the weather was very cooperative."

Boo Brew is an event designed to be laid back and raise awareness of Scare Away Cancer, its mission, and where the money raised goes to throughout the year.  

Scare Away Cancer will hold its 7th Annual Haunted Halloween event October 28, 2017, at Anthony's Steakhouse.

All of us at Scare Away Cancer encourage you give blood in memory of Kayla Hebenstreit. Make plans to donate on Friday, July 7th at Clancy's Pub from noon until 6:00 p.m.

​Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person — the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save a life, or even several if your blood is separated into its components — red cells, platelets, and plasma — which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions.

Kayla was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. At only 29 years old, she was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma. She went on to battle cancer four times and received blood during years of treatment that included several surgeries. Sadly, she died in July 2015. 

Kayla’s family is keeping her memory alive by hosting a blood drive in her name. 

Scare Away Cancer is set to host its 4th Annual Boo Brew!  “Drink Beer, Fight Cancer” is the motto of this event that will take place Thursday, July 13, at the Infusion Brewing Company Taproom, 6271 S 118 Street, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.

"Every year this event gets bigger and better.  It's no secret that we like to have fun," said Tony Fucinaro.  "We have a new venue and a new local brewery which means new beer to try."  The Infusion Brewing Taproom is located at 6271 S. 118 Street in Omaha and is famous for its Vanilla Bean Blonde.  Boo Brew will feature four different craft beers to drink.  Ten dollars will get you a collector’s pint glass and your first draft with refills at just five bucks.  The Chicago Dawg House will have its food truck on location to serve bratwurst, hotdogs, hamburgers, and more. 

"Scare Away Cancer is helping more patients and families than ever before," added Fucinaro.  "This event is an excellent way to introduce our mission to people and start the countdown to our big party in October."  Helping out at Boo Brew 4 are employees from Lincoln Financial Group.  This is the second straight year they have volunteered time to help make the event the success that it is. 

In six years, Scare Away Cancer has raised close to $600,000 for patients and families who are fighting cancer.
