Linear ACCELERATOR Now Treating patients

Methodist Health Jennie Edmundson Hospital Linear Accelerator

The latest technology in treating cancer is now being utilized at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The addition of a state-of-the-art linear accelerator gives cancer patients in southwest Iowa the best in cancer care.
 
"Patients have responded extremely well, they are very positive, and have talked about how calming it is to come into the new room with the new equipment," said Steve Baumert, President and CEO of Methodist Health Jennie Edmundson Hospital.
 
To make room for the new linear accelerator, MCL Construction carefully coordinated with hospital staff to assure there were no disruptions to hospital services during the project. It took ten months to complete a 3,400 square foot addition that was constructed between the existing hospital and the parking garage on campus. The new addition created a vault for the linear accelerator with the walls being up to five feet thick of concrete. A new control room, exam room, and storage room are also part of the project.
 
Director of Cancer Services at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Michelle Kaufman, worked closely with the MCL Construction team throughout the project.
 
"The guys from MCL were an absolute joy to work with; the communication from day one all the way through to the project was excellent. I think patient care was their number one concern," said Kaufman.
 
The Cancer Center at Methodist Health Jennie Edmundson is the ONLY nationally accredited cancer center in southwest Iowa and patients may drive an hour or more each way for treatment.
 
The new linear accelerator will allow the staff at Jennie Edmundson to treat more complex cancers previously referred to other facilities for radiation therapy.
